Patient Panel

View the latest Patient Panel Newsletter:   Newsletter October 2022

What do the panel do?
The panel acts as a critical friend to the practice, we are a conduit for education and troubleshooting between patients and the practice. We have monthly joint meetings, coffee mornings where we help patients with e.g. online access to the practice, conduct an annual survey and report on the findings, are affiliated to NAPP, the National Association of Patient Panels and we have a virtual panel of patients who cannot for work commitments etc come to our monthly meetings. We listen and advocate for patients and help with signposting to appropriate services.

What have the panel done to help the practice and patients?
Following a survey, we suggested the bus stop which helps patients have greater confidentiality at reception.
We produce a free newsletter, several times a year which aims to inform and educate patients on practice personnel, new services and current health issues.
We hold regular free coffee mornings where we listen to patient’s comments and concerns, help them with issues e.g. online access to the practice.
Above all we feel the levels of communication between the panel, patients and the practice has been opened, broadened and considerably improved.

Are you are considering joining either panel?
Please feel free to approach any of the panel members (see photos) and they will help.
There are contact cards on our board in reception.
Or you could ring Alison on her mobile 07540 304399 or email her at alison.lancelyn2@tiscali.co.uk.

Members of the panel

My name is Alison Ellison. I am the current chair of the panel, I wanted to join the panel because I felt my work experience would be useful. I was a senior social worker/practice teacher and I ran a rehab team linked with the Countess of Chester hospital. I have been with the practice for over 50 years.
My name is Brian Kelly. I have been in this practice for over 50 years. I have been a panel member for 3 plus years and try to put forward ideas and aspirations of patients via the panel and its members.
My name is Beryl Lord. I joined the Patient’s panel hoping that some of the skills I have learnt over the years would be useful. I was on the Chaplaincy Team at Arrowe Park Hospital for 12 years, I also worked with young people for many years and that has given me an understanding of that age group.
My name is Helen Jones. I have been with the Surgery all my life and felt that being on the Patient Panel I could hopefully give something back to the Surgery for all the help they have given me.
My name is Kerry Rooney. I believe I am useful to the panel because I have had a wealth of life and work experiences. I worked as a Midwife at the local hospital for many years as well as dipping my toes into counselling. I have been a mum for33 years and have three boys aged 33, 24 and 15. I also have 4 grand-daughters. I am interested in women’s health issues and the promotion of equality and fairness for people with disabilities.
My name is Louise Rigby
My name is Muriel Gosling
My name is Margaret McKinney. I have joined the Patient Panel because I have lived in Bromborough all my life and been a patient at the Orchard for many years. I am friendly and approachable and would like to help other patients with their questions.

I have been a patient of the practice since 1966 and a member of the panel from 2006.I chaired the panel for circa 6 years after it was reformed in line with the Wirral Commissioning Group changes. I have represented the Panel on various commissioning group boards and forums. I am a retired company director and proud to serve the patients of the Orchard surgery.
My name is Robin Kirby. I spent the first 61 years of my life in Essex/East London and in 2007 I brought my wife ‘home’ to Merseyside. We a have been patients at the Orchard since moving up and have always enjoyed good service and friendly attention. I believe I am very approachable and am happy to offer whatever help I can to other patients.
Hi, my name is Tony. I joined the patient panel to see if I could help our local NHS users improve access to services and to understand the pressures on all our service providers.
Qualified in biomedical sciences, specialising in haematology, and worked in the NHS for over 10 years. For almost thirty years I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry, mostly as a regional business manager and development coach.
