March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Posted on March 9th, 2020

Its Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

The ovaries are a pair of small organs located low in the tummy that are connected to the womb and store a woman’s supply of eggs.

Ovarian cancer mainly affects women who have been through the menopause (usually over the age of 50), but it can sometimes affect younger women.

Symptoms:

  • Persistent bloating – not bloating that comes and goes
  • Feeling full quickly and/or loss of appetite
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Urinary symptoms (needing to wee more urgently or more often than usual)

Sometimes there can be other symptoms:

  • Changes in bowel habit (eg diarrhoea or constipation)
  • Extreme fatigue (feeling very tired)
  • Unexplained weight loss

Symptoms may be Frequent (they usually happen more than 12 times a month), Persistent (they don’t go away) or New (they are not normal for you).

If you think you may be suffering with these symptoms, please contact the Surgery and book an appointment to speak to a GP.
